Visit of H.E. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon'ble Minister of State (IC) for Petroleum & Natural Gas of India to Chittagong - 19 April 2016

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State(IC) for Petroleum and Natural Gas of India visited Bangladesh from 17-19 April 2015. During his visit A MoU was signed for an Indo-Bangla joint venture for setting up of a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) terminal at Chittagong on 18 April 2016 at Hotel Raddison, Dhaka. Both Ministers discussed about energy cooperation before signing the agreement. The MoU was signed between Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation and Indian Oil Corporation. MoS for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources of Bangladesh Mr. Nasrul Hamid Dipu and Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Indian MoS for Petroleum and Natural Gas were present at that occasion.

On 19 April 2016 Indian MoS, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan along with MoS for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources of Bangladesh Mr. Nasrul Hamid Dipu visited Chittagong Port. He had a meeting with Port Chairman Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal. Indian Minister was briefed about functioning of port and proposed bay terminal. The delegation visited Chittagong Container Terminal and New Mooring Container Terminal.

On 19 April 2016 an agreement was signed in the presence of both Ministers of India and Bangladesh at Patenga Eastern Refinery complex appointing Management Consultant for Eastern Refinery's 2nd Unit. Engineers India Ltd (EIL) has been selected for the job through international tender process for consultancy service for erection of 2nd unit of Eastern Refineries Ltd, country's only state owned refinery at a total cost of Taka 15 thousand crore. Mr. Moslehuddin, Director (Operation & Planning ) of BPC on behalf of ERL and Mr. Upendra Maheshwari, Executive Director of EIL on behalf of EIL signed the agreement. Unit - 2 is expected to be completed in 2019 at a total cost of 15 thousand crore and the refining capacity of the unit would be 30 lakh tonne per annum.
